Bob, Happy Retirement!!!!



A few nights ago the Science Department and a few close friends threw Bob a surprise party. Barb was to pass Sababa, stop in, and there would be a BIG SURPISE . . . we would be inside waiting to wish him the best on his journey into retirement. But he didn’t look like he wanted to come inside Sababa.

Luckily Eric quickly went out to chat with him and brought him inside. When he opened the door, everybody stood up and gave him a long applause. He was so shocked he didn’t know what to say. I hope my camera caught that special moment.



Bob has been our friend for 21 years. How to describe Bob?



Over 18 years ago my friends invited us to a KTV, and Bob and Barb went with us. That night all my friends were surprised that Bob ate chicken feet and duck tongues with us.



In ’94 we took a trip together to Lancaster, PA, the heartland of the Amish in PA. Steve always likes to joke with Bob about the trip; when it came time to pay the bill at a restaurant, Steve said, “Just charge that short guy behind me, he is my brother. HA!! HA!! Bob said, “ Well……. Well…….” with a big smile on his face.



In ’96 Adventure Club took a trip to Nepal. The first afternoon most people went window shopping in the streets of Kathmandu. Suddenly a heavy rain came down, and everybody ran back to the hotel. Bob ran as fast as he could but forget that he left Barb behind. HA!! HA!!



Bob is an expert when it comes to birds. In ’95 we were in Sabah. Someone asked him what kind of bird they saw up in a tree? He said, “ Well………that is a bird with green and red Feathers? #@!





Bob enjoys birding in the early morning hours. It doesn’t matter how far he needs to drive or walk, he always carries an Indian bag filled with heavy lens, books, and a telescope. Sometimes the bag weighs more then 20 Kg.





I still remember the time he and Wayne Hsu drove to Xindian to go birding. He was so tried he fell asleep at the wheel, and bumped into the roadside railings. The car was so badly damaged it couldn’t be fixed. Luckily no one was hurt.





Bob likes to experiment. A few summers ago, he let poison ivy brush against his arm just to find out what would happen.



I’ve never see him really angry. He has a lot of patience with many things. A lot of the time he reminds me of a Chinese saying . . . 少了ㄧ根筋的人.





























Bob is more like a family member than a friend.

冷碟菜的魅力



在江南嚐了許多地方風味菜.熱菜出場前,冷碟菜(小菜)所展現的魅力,是令人回味的.小小的ㄧ碟冷菜,不僅有著地方特色,也能見到食材的季節變化,更是喚起味蕾的好幫手.看似簡單的冷碟菜,迷人的風采,非得親自嚐過,才能了解箇中的妙滋味.



蘇州醬肉,是用紅麴加冰糖滷煮.涼透後的肉片沾了醬汁,甜潤好吃也不油膩.



倒扣的清燙綠菠菜和鹽漬的白蘿蔔絲,層次分明.搭上雕花的紅蘿蔔,十分賞心悅目.



草魚做的燻魚.蘇州人稱為爆魚.咬下口的瞬間,鮮味十足,還有著淡淡的煙薰味.



拌了香油的菜心和筍片,脆爽的口感讓人不免多吃幾口.



滑嫩的醉雞,甘甜中透出了花雕和雞肉原汁的清香,令人印象深刻.



南京人的餐桌上有“無鴨不成席”的說法.這碟桂花鹽水鴨,看似略乾.然香,嫩的肉質中,還能嚐出淡淡的桂花香.



這碟梅肉蜜花豆,蜜汁中帶點梅香的花豆,不錯吃.



樓外樓的梅菜扣肉是此行中梅菜最少的ㄧ碟.五花肉肥瘦得宜,很入味,挺適合搭配冰涼的西湖啤酒.



好些家餐廳都有這碟茶葉鵪鶉蛋.獨門祕方,讓上桌的鵪鶉蛋各有風味.



別瞧這,就是碟簡單的小黃瓜條,重點在.沾上那小碟中的特調甜麵醬.滋味得自己嚐了才知曉.



或因紅棗能滋潤氣血,在杭州,南京及紹興的餐廳,常見蜜汁紅棗當冷碟菜.



太湖的三白之ㄧ,銀魚.炸酥的銀魚撒些油炸花生,再淋上糖醋汁,蠻好吃.



看似普通的素雞,清淡中可以嚐出上等素高湯提味的工夫.



山外山的花雕醉雞,滋味不輸樓外樓.酒香,肉質鮮甜,口感Q嫩.



馬蘭頭這種野菜,有點像薺菜.有股特殊的香味,清爽開胃.



這螺不知名.杭州人說:"清明螺,賽肥鵝".螺肉確實肥美又無土腥,帶點辣,滋味ㄧ級棒!


琳琅滿目的冷碟菜是開啟味覺的功臣.雖然名為"小菜",有時卻是相當費工的.對我而言,好吃的冷碟菜,吃後,那種驚喜.往往是大菜所無法比擬的.

中國印學博物館



中國印學史介紹了 "始用花乳石治印“ 是元朝末年的王冕和明朝的文彭.



西湖畔,西泠橋東面的中國印學博物館,是研究金石篆刻歷史最悠久的西泠印社所成立的印學文化藝術博物館.



建於1999年的中國印學博物館,展示了歷代不同時期和流派的璽印.璽印是結合了書體和篆刻章法而展現出的印學藝術.



現存最早的古璽印大多是戰國的璽印.印文的內容又以官印和私印居多.

這方"樂喜"的印文,有著古樸之美.



漢代象形印又稱圖案印.混厚.極具趣味



古璽印多數以銅鑿鑄而成.印面文字章法多變,不易辨識,風格奇特.





石印材有著溫潤的質感,能讓書畫家隨心所欲的遨遊於方寸之間,邊款更是篆刻者抒懷著墨的地方.

明代中期文人書畫已出現了詩,書,畫,印的和諧美感.於是閑章和名號印就成為書畫上一種重要的構圖美學.

文彭是明四大家-文徵明的長子.曾任兩京國子監.精於六書,好印學.是吳門派篆刻藝術的代表人物.

文彭多次拜訪友人-明代著名的文學家唐荊川.常見他公餘之暇,沈醉在院中古松樹下,兩鶴相伴,撫琴自娛的情趣.於是刻了這方"琴罷倚松玩鶴"印石相贈.印石的邊款上也記述了文人雖寄情於山水,但終不能忘世情的無奈.這方朱文刻印有著流暢,秀麗的自然風格.



白文印.指鐫刻成凹狀的印文為朱地白字.也稱"陰文". 這款圓印.印文渾厚,古拙中帶有雅趣.



鄧石如為清代碑學書家,擅長四體書.所創的印風,得力於其書法造詣.印作蒼勁渾樸,灑脫清新.

"江流有聲斷岸千尺"這個細朱文印,句出蘇軾《後赤壁赋》.此印不僅是鄧石如的代表作,也是日後篆刻章法裡,ㄧ個很重要的範例.

儘管印面上的文字很多,但對角虛實鮮明有波浪式的律動感.一疏一密,渾樸流暢.



西泠印社成立之時,邀請了書畫篆刻大師吳昌碩為首任社長.吳昌碩的印作風格,善用鈍刀,印文雄渾蒼老,古拙遒勁.

這方"西泠印社中人" 是在日本收藏家小林鬥庵捐贈下,重返西泠印社.印文剛勁古樸,空間佈局虛實呼應,印面形成一個完美的空間.



有機會到杭州,在欣賞西湖美麗的景致之餘.不妨撥個空,到中國印學博物館走走,欣賞ㄧ下金石篆刻,感受ㄧ下歷代各流派的璽印之美.
